About Our Founder

Dr. Joyce Melton Pagés earned her B.S. in Elementary Education and her Early Childhood Endorsement from the University of Arkansas. She earned her M.Ed. in Elementary Education with special emphasis in Reading from the University of Arkansas. Finally, she earned her Ed.D. in Reading Education with a minor in School Administration from Indiana University.

Throughout her twenty years of teaching, Dr. Pagés has taught learners from the age of 5 through the age of 74 how to read; she has also taught reading methods courses to college students aspiring to be teachers. In the public schools, she taught sixth grade and remedial reading (for kindergarten through sixth grade). She taught adults how to read in her free time. During the summer, Dr. Pagés directed a Summer Reading Program in 14 northwest Arkansas schools; this involved training and supervising teenagers who tutored elementary school children in reading and writing. Her college teaching included Fundamentals of Reading Instruction (undergraduate level), Methods and Materials of Kindergarten Instruction (undergraduate level), Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Difficulties (undergraduate and graduate levels), Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum (undergraduate and graduate levels), Secondary Reading Instruction (undergraduate level), Implementation of Classroom Reading Instruction (undergraduate level), Foundations of Reading Instruction (graduate level), and Organization and Administration of School Reading Programs (graduate level). Further, throughout her 13 years at Tarleton State University (part of the Texas A&M University System), Dr. Pagés directed the Professional Reading Specialist Certification Program.

While at Indiana University, Dr. Pagés worked in an Interdisciplinary Clinic with faculty and graduate students in speech and hearing, optometry, medicine, and special education; they assessed and planned instruction for children and adults with reading and learning problems. Throughout her work at Indiana University and Tarleton State University, Dr. Pagés published a number of articles in professional journals, served as a consultant for several school districts, presented at a number of conferences, and conducted over 250 inservice workshops for teachers.

Currently, Dr. Pagés works as the Instructional Specialist at Acton Middle School in Granbury, Texas. She and her husband are the proud parents of two high school children. In addition, Dr. Pagés advocates for children in a variety of arenas.
